Addressing the teacher problem

     The civilization of the Planet Ilium, located in the Hades Gamma Cluster, is enjoying the best of its days. Unlike us, who had to look into their history, study the social, cultural and political contributions, and then got to identify the Gupta period as our Golden age, the Ilium civilization does not wait for history. They are powerful, and have written their own history of the present; and their present is the best of the times they have ever had (and shall ever have). 

   Ilium, even in the best of the days, had one of the nastiest vestiges of the past - the teachers. These "readers of slides", "reciters of search results" had nothing to contribute, and their society was still continuing its education system merely to support these otherwise unemployable individuals. For Ilium, standing at the zenith of its affairs, education was meaningless, and so were teachers. So what did they do to eradicate the last of their social burdens? 

    All educational institutions have been closed. There is no primary, secondary or other similar levels of education. Anything required to be learned is available for access over their free-to-all institution-run network; a digital library, if you will. A personal repository device is provided to everyone at birth. In order to avoid needless confusions (and also to save the people from the unnecessary burden of multiplicity of perspectives), they have no alternative sources of information, like books, journals, newspapers, or internet. Every topic is comprehensively covered in a ten-second audio-visual medium. This ensures that there is no disagreement in society, and also protects the valuable time of the people. They can now invest it in better endeavors.

    A licensing authority has been constituted that regularly (or occasionally; or as and when the need arises; I slept when I got to that part) conducts examinations to ensure that only suitable individuals enter the workforce. Anyone who has qualified the relevant examinations for a particular set of skills may enter the concerned stream of the workforce. In order to avoid any influence of privilege, there are no coaching institutions; one may only refer the institution-mandated information broadcasted over the institution-run network to prepare. 

    The result: a society living in peace and tranquility, benefiting from the erasure of binaries and multiplicities, finally having acquired the soulful unity with the one (whatever that is). A teacher-free world became a conflict free world. Before you run to take lessons from Ilium, remember that they are in their golden age, and well-advanced. They have completely integrated Artificial Intelligence (a topic about which we are still only writing theses) with their social life. This resulted in complete management of the clerical, occasional, and residual tasks. We need to bear these teachers till we achieve such integration, and dump all such work on them (as it is they do nothing). This is the only way we can move towards addressing the teacher problem.

No attraction without intellectual intimidation

So what is it that makes someone attractive?  I mean, it is only a fleeting biological urge that turns a head – a spark that flashes and fades in a moment. But then there is another kind of attraction — the kind where a single set of eyes become the only reality in an ocean of people. They have a pull so magnetic that the sense of self willingly surrenders, eager to submerge itself entirely. This is not mere infatuation; this is nothing like the experience of romantic love. Unlike the usual relationship urges – which are controlling, obsessive and largely selfish – this is complete and utter devotion. What makes someone ‘ that ’ attractive? How does a person become so vital to your being that they become impervious to the doctrine of severability —where to remove them from your memory would be to strike down the very foundation of who you have become? An Interest in Nothingness

We distinguish between ' an interest in nothingness ' and ' an interest in nothing at all '. The latter feels no call at all - neither from existence nor from the non-existent, not from the visible or the invisible. No internal or external pull (or push) moves him. This is a disinterested apathetic person moving through life in a state which could be written off (by some) as anhedonia.  The other - i.e., the ones interested in nothingness - do not suffer the lack of the ' pull '. Their object of attraction, however, is the transcendental - formless, attribute-less, timeless, and even witless. This pull is a way in which the search for the absolute truth expresses itself in our heads. It generates an obsession with  निर्गुण,  निराकार, and  निर्विकार. Why (and how) does one develop a taste for such unmentionables could be fertile field of inquiry, but I'll dare not foray lest bitter realizations arise to haunt me!
